Where we share some of our happier thoughts of the farm -- the intention is weekly -- but as all things go here - we will see what we can do!

Week 35, 2023

We had a moment of dry weather this week, and now the heat is on!  Where was this in July?? – This will be the summer we talk about it being sandwiched between this incessant rain. We have thought about Grandpa Tassey often and how worried he would be about the hay production and its impact on fellow farmers, especially in the North Country!   We are working on getting some cover crops in,  planning the fall project in earnest, and picking tomatoes that are dropping like apples off the vines!

We have an abundance of cherry tomatoes!  It is a joy to be picking these as they are so abundant and picking them is so easy the last few weeks, we still have plenty to pick and store for the winter.  It has been a family affair lately to keep up with the picking and delivery – young Harper can fill a bucket a bit faster than Nannie Lona, which gives her great joy!  We have transitioned back to our school schedule for the girls and fall sports are in full swing!  We are keeping the farm stand stocked most mornings, but if you need something specific or want to plan for a larger quantity – let us know and we are happy to add it to our farm chore list!

PS!  We are still going to the farmers market in Gorham every Thursday from 3-6

April - 2023

The air is finally beginning to shift in our favor during the days and the wet Spring is arriving – the snow is now gone from the fields, and we have had some Canadian Geese move in. John even saw our “friend” the pesky gopher this week!   As we walked the other evening to close the houses and put away the tools for the day we heard the surest sign of Spring --the peepers were back in the ponds, singing their song of joy for the sudden shift in the weather. We’re all so excited to get the season rolling. It will certainly, be a different season for us this year – challenging, a bit unsteady, and with a feeling of missing a large piece of us.  However, we all knew this time was coming and Grandpa Tassey wanted nothing more for his farm to continue – his tomatoes and his great-grandchildren to run in the fields. This week, we continue to pot up plants and moved our first 500 plants into the ground of the hothouse for their summer home.  Our nights are still unpredictably cold, and we are so thankful for the updates made in the last few seasons to our hothouse that keep the plants at a consistent temperature – even with our crazy North County winds!
